I knew that I wanted to go somewhere after graduation, but was scared to go to Europe by myself. So, I looked up destinations that are safest for solo travelers in Asia, and Bali popped up the most. (I would've chosen Japan, but I had already been there, so my priorities are for countries I've never been to before.) When I saw pictures of the infinity pools, I was in love...and instantly decided to put Bali on my list. Plus, the lodging seemed really cheap compared to all other countries I was looking at.
Then, I told my parents about my desires to go travel abroad. Being the protective parents they are, they were against the idea of me traveling solo, so when I was at work one day, I asked one of my coworkers/friend if she'd like to go travel with me. Surprisingly, she said yes! Less than two weeks later, we booked our flights. It felt surreal to me because I wasn't expecting her to say yes and be so active in booking the flights. (We booked from SF -> Denpasar -> Seoul)
However, my surreal feelings were right. My co-worker friend had to cancel her flights due to various reasons. She thought that I would cancel my flights too since she was no longer able to go, but there was no way that I would back out on my travel plans when I was so close to making it happen. Since I already told my parents that I would be traveling with a friend, I decided to hide the fact that my friend could no longer come with me. (Side note: my mom found out after I arrived in Bali though) So...that's the story of how I ended up traveling solo.
