Intro to Classes

I'm just gonna introduce all my classes here. Note that the day I "published" this, is the first day of class. The first class of each course is like how it's like back in Berkeley...mostly introduction & syllabus & a little bit of learning. I've been talking to people who are used to the Quarter System, and they think that the first week of classes were a waste of time (since they are so used to getting started with lectures from day 1); but for me, I'm happy. LOL. It doesn't feel that different from Berkeley, and I prefer settling back to class-mode slowly.

DIFFERENCES FROM BERKELEY:

1. There are 10 min. breaks every class hour. (For example, if your class starts at 9:10, you'll have a break time at 10:20, and another one at 11:30 ish. )

2. There are no extra "discussion" or "lab" sections; it's included as part of the lecture hour. That's why most classes are 2 or 3 hours ._.

3. One course = once per week. So even though I have 5 courses, it's actually pretty relaxing compared to back at Berkeley. Each credit/unit corresponds to the hours of the class per week.

MONDAY:

》Psycholinguistic (9:10 - 12:20): Lecture PowerPoint is in English, but explanation is mostly in Chinese. Lecturer would occasionally throw in English phrases though. Classmates are all local Taiwanese students. Quiz and midterm is in English. So basically, if you are fluent in Chinese speaking, but not in writing, you'll be fine. You can write everything in English, everyone in the class understands English. The group presentation is done in Chinese though, so be prepared to read the translated version of an English textbook. Also, we usually end class by 12:00.

》Taiwanese (3:30 - 5:20): Lecture in Taiwanese and Mandarin, the lecturer would occasionally throw in some Japanese or English phrases to help explain. Class is probably half Japanese, and then a little from the other countries. No local students. Class usually "ends" at 5:00, and then we all line up in the front to read the chapter out loud for the teacher. <- that is how she takes the attendance

TUESDAY:

》Business Chinese(10:10 - 12:00): It's basically a Chinese class that also teach us business skills/facts. No local students. At first there were only 7 people in the first day of class, but for some reason, people started popping up from nowhere starting the second week. No break in between the hours for this class, because the teacher wants to end early. Vocab quiz every week, at the beginning of class.

WEDNESDAY:

》NO CLASSSSSSSSSSS

THURSDAY:

》Forest Environmental Physics (9:10 - 12:20): Taught in English. Lecturer is Japanese. Three students total in class. All non-local.

》Human Resources Management (2:30 - 6:00): Taught in Chinese. Textbook in English. We have group projects, so we have to write the essay in Chinese. Professor said I could write the self assignment and final in English though. All local Taiwanese students.

FRIDAY:

》Computer Linguistic : I dropped the class after the first day. The students were all grad students, so I felt out of place...
